France has started planning a shift from Windows to Linux on government desktops. DINUM confirmed that every ministry must prepare its own migration plan by Autumn 2026 as part of a broader push to reduce reliance on non-European software.

If this rollout moves forward as planned, it could become one of the most important Linux adoption stories in recent years. It has not been decided yet which distribution will be used.

Ubuntu required 1GB of RAM back in 2014. Now #ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Resolute Raccoon, raises the minimum memory to 6GB, which is even more than what #windows 11 requires.

To be honest, whenever #linux comes to mind, it’s usually associated with being lightweight, and this advantage is slowly shrinking. However, if you’re not tied to Ubuntu, there are plenty of other lightweight Linux distros you can try on an older PC, and my favorite is Lubuntu. It runs well on low-spec machines.

GNU nano 9.0 is now available. It’s the first major release in about two years.

This update brings smoother horizontal scrolling, sideways viewport navigation, rebindable keys, better macro handling, and improved syntax support.

If you build from source, you can download it now from the official website. Otherwise, it should arrive in distribution repositories soon.
