I recently lamented about how overly simplified the modern web is. Several of my peers merely complain about JavaScript, etc, but my complaint is the absolute brevity of many websites now.

Many home pages no longer reliably tell you what the site is about. It's all pictures, very little text.

I was told, it's because the new web is "mobile first" these days, and most people now get info from e.g. video, social media.

The screenshots show Debian's home page, today and from 2015, as an example.
