System76 isn't building their PCs in China now, I was on the fence before but I think I'm sold now. Unless a god-tier thinkpad with coreboot falls out of the sky in front of me the next time I need a lappy

@Ocean be aware pf a few things:

1. several of the parts of their computers have been china made(clevo's whitebox laptops), but final assembly, testing some tweaking has been done in Colorado since they started.

2. This won't completely change overnight, it's a slow process where they bring one aspect home at a time. The first item is DESKTOP cases.

3. They're still prototyping. So nothing purchased this year will be different from last.

4. next toot

@Ocean
4. They ship nvidia hardware in laptops. So if you want 100% free, stick to the intel apu machines.

5. They already customize bios and firmware to disable IME.

@Notsonoble Oh fucking hell, I forgot all about the fact that they used Nvidia and intel. They don't have a single full AMD model I bet.

@Ocean They don't AMD at all, they repeatedly test AMD hardware, and find things that make them decide against it. That said, I haven't found an AMD build I like either. I want shit to work.
@Notsonoble I actually only use AMD lel. The pc I built has an AMD cpu and GPU as well as my thinkpad.

@Notsonoble And even the PC I had before that. That one was a piece of shit, and sadly it had a nshitia GPU

@Ocean I've had just the opposite experiences, work equipment is AMD and I have lots of video issues. Home pc's currently on a nvidia 630 and I have no problems with multimonitor or games.

I grew up on AMD athalons, and miss their last 32bit and early 64bit products, but their modern stuff is crap. Purchasing ATI was also a huge mistake.

@Notsonoble As far as GPUs the only one I've ever had a problem with was nvidia. And I think you know exactly why that was a struggle to get working.

@Notsonoble Nvidia is just at a state where none of their GPUs work 100% properly on my shit. I mean, it'll display stuff MAYBE, but half the screen will be cut off, or it'll put weird little lines over everytthing, or something like that

@Notsonoble It's possible for the more popular cards there are better drivers, but I don't really know anything about that
