» water reservoir built into the turbine. wind farm in Gaildorf is based on a totally new power plant concept – the water battery – innovation that is setting new industry standards. power generation from renewable energy is combined with a modern pumped-storage power plant. This storage concept uses the foundation of the wind turbine as a water reservoir, which results in a 40-meter increase in the height of the turbine. increases the annual energy yield by 0.5 to 1%.

Max Bögl Wind puts turbine on THE tallest tower, 178m. Blade tip to 246.5m

The spirit of this Bavarian company is now in full view in the town of Gaildorf near Stuttgart, home of the world’s tallest tower for an onshore wind turbine.

@pflory power can be stored by pumping water up to a reservoir where it can be spilled on demand thus generating power which you mentioned. There are also designs of creating a massive flywheel with very large inertia. The inertia can be recoupled on demand to convert the mechanical energy back into electrical. Of course then there are the batteries which will help stabilize photovoltaics.
