How often does Easter collide with April Fool?
@Altivo the last coincidence was 75 yrd ago, the next one will be 11yrs from now.
@letienne Ah, that explains why I don't remember it ever happening. I'm too young. (Don't get to say that very often now.)
@Altivo yeah mortality, what a bitch amiright?
@letienne Something like that, yeah. 🎠
@Altivo i am 30. how do people avoid being stuck in a permanent mid life crisis for the rest of their lives? Genuine question.
@letienne I wish I had an answer for that. I think I mostly missed the middle age crisis because, like Peter Pan, I said "I won't grow up!" I went back to grad school and made a career shift though at age 40, because I wanted to. But I skipped over the angst.
@Altivo that sounds like a success story, share how did this career switch come about. I am a sucker for stories with happy endings
@letienne Not a big story. I got a liberal arts degree (high honor) and began seminary studies to be an Episcopal priest. A psychiatrist doing a required evaluation concluded that I was gay (I had no idea) and my scholarship money was cut off. Could have stayed in school but had no funding so I left. Got a job as a library assistant, loved it, wanted to get the master's degree and become a librarian but again, no money. (1)
@Altivo No... their entire existence is normally hidden deep-deep below the society it feels like a carnival in an alien city. And it is as awesome as terrifying. In that sense that I have lived my life completely ignorant of the honest selves and struggles of those people whom I presume I know.
It is said to see they could just deprive you if you vocation like that. what made you fall in love in ... libr...arianism?
@letienne Just books. Voices of thousands of authors, many of them long gone from this world. Language, poetry, philosophy, history. I studied several languages in order to read them, not speak them. Ancient Greek poetry is, well, magnificent. So is Anglo-Saxon. To stand in a library, to feel all those minds whispering around one... Yeah, I know. I'm weird in many ways.
@Altivo :) wouldn't liberal arts be better suited for that? Did you learn to read ancient greek at college? This sounds like a dream job. but this is not what the job is about, is it? what does a librarian do? I doubt it is just processing leases and retrieving medium from the archives.
@letienne Librarians do a lot of things. They help readers find answers to questions or to locate materials (including those not in their own institution.) They select books and other materials to obtain and add to the collection. They catalog new materials and add them to the collection so they can be found and used. They plan education/entertainment programs and publicize them. They maintain computers and networks used in the library, make budgets, raise funds.
