Actually, I do want to learn how to properly thatch a roof when I have time. I don’t know if we have the proper material growing in our area, but I thought it may be possible to do with bamboo varieties (split into thin strips) that grow in cold weather

Since bamboo grows much faster, its a great renewable resource for this sort of thing

@cypnk beautiful. The volume of material is always striking, makes sense that as a waste product of growing grain/wheat it would be available, I assume it's not salvageable from modern/mechanized harvest/threshing methods. No way I can picture self-producing that much. Bamboo seems almost manageable but as splits not the rain shedding mechanics of thatch. Wild.
