Reading a book one of my select board colleagues gave me about Roger Williams, and the extent to which I misunderstood him and what Rhode Island represented in the early American colonies is amazing.

We assume government power derived from the people who are governed is a birth right, when in fact our fore-bearers had to fight to excise the assumption that all power derived from a Christian God. Fascinating stuff.
