Ok, I tooted earlier about Mastodon and why I believe it won't be the facebook killer.

I got some well thought out responses that basically said that Mastodon is something on it's own entirely.

Here are a few questions I leave you with: What has the potential to be the facebook killer in your opinion? Or will they survive this and become even stronger?

@1reddituser0 : there may be an exodus of people leaving Facebook, but who knows where people will end up over time. I left fb and Twitter. Leaving Google is being more difficult.

Sites that track and sell people's info need to look at their business model long and hard.

@1reddituser0 In my opinion facebook has mostly gone on strong because people use it as platform to connect to distant loved ones, acquaintances and friends. Creating a platform where you can easily find and interact with these people might be able to challenge facebook if it's simple enough to use, but the competition will be stiff
@1reddituser0 But overall I think using facebook as beyond that purpose is dying down as people begin to see it as an untrustworthy place to get news and message each other. My guess is it will become something like internet explorer is used to download other browsers, you use it to make an initial connection and go off to another platform/service for further interaction with someone/
