Got back on facebook for a while, only to delete it again. Everything on there feels like spam.

Like the ads, the ads are so pervasive that even adblockers don't do anything to get rid of them.

Besides the privacy issue, it's just annoying as hell. I don't go onto a social network to be fed ads. I go on to connect with other people.

I'm completely devastated right now😢... I can't imagine how his family must feel: #zozobra #oldmangloom #cavein https://hollywoodlife.com/2018/03/30/caleb-scofield-dead-cave-in-bassist-dies-car-crash/
Caleb Scofield Dead: Cave In Bassist Tragically Dies After His Car Bursts Into Flames During Crash

The metal world lost one of its own, as Caleb Scofield, the bassist and vocalist for Cave In, Old Man Gloom and Zozobra, died after his truck collided with a toll booth. He was only 39.

My goal was to sign up for all of the new privacy focused social networks. Now, I'm overwhelmed with the sheer amount of them popping up. I may stick with the three I've got so far.

I have had a lot of questions today. I ended up signing up for diaspora & Minds. I also discovered Vero, which I'm reticent to trust.

So far, I like Mastodon the most. Neither site has a very sleek interface. I'm still looking forward to seeing how this all plays out firsthand.

Has anyone heard of Vero? It actually looks really sleek: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LdJ-wl0l-Hk

Maybe It's Facebook's lowkey plan b. 😂

Vero – True Story

YouTube
does anyone here use diaspora*? seems like that was supposed to be an alternative for facebook in the same way some folks billed this in position to twitter.

Ok, I tooted earlier about Mastodon and why I believe it won't be the facebook killer.

I got some well thought out responses that basically said that Mastodon is something on it's own entirely.

Here are a few questions I leave you with: What has the potential to be the facebook killer in your opinion? Or will they survive this and become even stronger?

I like Mastodon, but I do feel that it needs a lot of work to become a facebook killer.

No private messaging
No photo albums
No event scheduling
Instances are confusing
Anonymous userbase
webUI feels cluttered

As it is now, Mastodon feels a whole lot like reddit and Twitter had a questionably functional lovechild that has no messaging.

I do think that Mastodon could have a decent shot at being the social media platform for internet frens. Like friends made on reddit / Discord. We'll see.
