People tend to start on mastosoc and then move somewhere else.
http://instances.social/ is a helpful little site that can help you pick a different instance that's better suited to your needs.

huebirds! 🐢@halfmonty @quatschmitsauce I see quite a bit of activity on the local timeline, although it's for sure much slower than Twitter, it's far from dead. There's a language filter in the settings, maybe it's because of that? (I still have no idea how that works to be honest)
