We want to find somewhere close to Crystalliving, since conditions were pretty good there (even with the frozen type winters) - but we need to be mindful of that haunted area too!
This site is right next to Crystalliving - not sure how that would affect us, but perhaps we need a little more room
If nothing else, our annotated atlas would look a bit weird with two sites on the one spot
This one looks good. It's only three clicks south of our last place, so maybe we can send parties over to say hi, etc

I like to be close to a river and dig into a mountainside/whatever - I don't like 'just a hole in the ground' entrances, but I don't think we have a choice here

Other than having everything aboveground, we're not settling into the point where the dorfs just need to get stuff done and it can sit for a while
Getting tired of these Giant Cardinals, so I'm going to re-enact the Great Emu War with them and my dorfs by forming up a squad, and using DFHack to teleport the birds down
@Supervinh47 would be proud
Went to get cake, unpaused without thinking (before issuing kill orders)
All the birds except one fucked off, so now all the dorfs are standing around this one Giant Cardinal hitting it with the butts of their crossbows
12 dorfs standing around a giant bird smashing it, while it vomits
The combat log for the bird is 42 pages long
Almost all the dorfs have fallen down from exhaustion.
It's hard work

As has the bird
Most are just over-exerted (too tired to do much), but @demonicdragon and @katelyn have actually passed out
They've been fighting this bird for several days now.
This could be bad, actually
It's been about 2 weeks
I'm going to start teleporting squad members out so they can restock with bolts, etc and food
After 4 weeks, I had to release the combat by teleporting to bird away
It'll die eventually
Because they've all been literally looking at a combat target for four weeks, they're all legendary Observers
We've also hit upon the age old problem of no water (frozen river) and slightly injured dorf == dehydration == death
