I follow over 700 people. Some of them are folks that unfortunately did not stick around beyond trying the platform for a short time, or come back only periodically. I do not include them in my follow fridays because what's the point of recommending inactive accounts? And yet, I feel the temptation to do so, since some of them are people I really admire

@Gargron

the temptation could be handled by tooting about them being a good read albeit one that is no longer updated (or is rarely so)?

some things are timeless classics worth sharing, regardless of form or presentation

@Gargron Sometimes it's still good to recommend good people to follow even if they don't post often, or at all, or have been away for a while. What if they come back? Their posts will still be good, presumably.
@Gargron try including them an encouraging people to try to connect to them. A key thing for retaining people is engagement, if they feel engaged they might starting using mastodon more regularly...
@Gargron what are your follow fridays?
@Gargron I really hope this thing get critical mass. I love it, even though it seems like I'm 20 years older than everyone..
