What do you do to get inspired? ✨ What makes you want to create art? Got any helpful words to those currently in an art block?
I think it would be interesting to see how and what makes you guys want to make the great art you make, let me know!

@DearMsDear Doodle, draw shapes and make patterns, just get the pencil or pen or stylus moving.

Or scribble a couple pages or six of just a squiggle, and then try to make something from it. :)

@DearMsDear Other artists tbh. I see the work they do and I love the colors or the line quality or the composition or the emotions/mood etc and I either want to try it, too, or am reminded of something I'd like to do with my own work. Also a lot of bouncing ideas off of my friends. Inside jokes and gags, conversations, etc. And other times it's just trudging through the block and scribbling out anything and everything I possibly can. I know 'this too shall pass' doesn't help everyone, but it's very true for me. I don't dwell on being blocked too much and eventually it does indeed pass.
@DearMsDear when i'm in an art block i watch a movie that i either love dearly (in a certain aesthetic) or i was a new one that is one i wouldn't usually watch. or i go take a walk :3

@DearMsDear i tend to get more fired up when my friends are also drawing, especially if we're on call together and we can send our wips to each other. seeing them be passionate makes me feel more inspired.

i think when you're in an artblock, it's important to draw SOMETHING, even quick shitty one minute doodles, even if they're not to your usual standards of good enough. (that and having art friends that can bully you into doodling with them is very helpful)

@DearMsDear Make bad art! Don't be afraid to mess up or try something new. Every single artist has make something that they are not 100% pleased with and that's totally fine!

I tend to shut down when I can't think of what to paint, so sometimes I'll just pick something even if it doesn't feel inspired. The physical act (even if it feels mechanical) can sometimes get me back into the swing

@DearMsDear if your brain is clogged do something "mindless". I tend to play some shooty games like wolfenstein. You're still active but your brain can relax.
@DearMsDear The other day i got really inspired by looking at some of my old art. it was partly “wow i improved so much” and partly “i actually really like some of these specific things i had going on, should dig into that again”
@DearMsDear Looking at art that inspires me, webcomics, tutorials, TAKING A BREAK, and reading--these are just a few!
@DearMsDear Not an artist, however am a game designer and for me I like to think about what game I would like to play that doesn't yet exist. Or some combination of play styles that I think would be really cool to tinker with. Sometimes leads to great projects. Other times I at least learn some new tricks :)
@DearMsDear definitely looking at other artists, seeing how well they are doing. I dont really get jealous but totally feel this burrrn to get up at their level 🔥 :D Oh and if I don't know what to draw: Pinterest saves artists lifes. 😂

@DearMsDear have something else to do that is urgent. :P

Jokes aside I usually use music to get my brain going.

@DearMsDear
Ok, I am a HUGE fan of listening to music to get inspiration when I draw. It's like having a mini music video in my head, and since I connect sounds with colors it's also very visually stimulating.
Also, if I have a bad art block I like to play the ukelele, go outside, or work out. Anything that gets me moving!
@DearMsDear My best advice about blocks is to draw (or write) something terrible on purpose. Make something that is pure trash that no one will ever see, like printing a test page when you know your printer needs to be cleaned.

@DearMsDear I think about the characters that I've been writing about since high school and think about their lives, which only exist through me, and I just want to bring them life in some small tangible way.

I also channel my problems into fiction, which is therapeutic.

The other source is seeing cool stuff and wanting to make cool stuff.

@DearMsDear when I get burned out drawing I do something like sewing or sculpting.. also reading is my happy place and a great source of inspiration
