That's odd. Someone followed me and I cant' see their posts on their profile at all. But if I click through to the public URL, I can see them and they're all in English, so it's not the language filtering at fault.
Let's try turning filtering off entirely, see what happens. It's probably not as necessary here as on mastodon.social anyway.
Nope. Still can't see them. Weird.
@Nezchan Hey, if they're from another instance and no one on this instance is following them, then their posts haven't been copied over here -- that's why they aren't showing up. Basically, you'll only start to see posts from an external account once someone starts following it -- an effect of federation not apparent on larger instances like mastodon.social :)

@matt Yeah, I did figure that out in the end. It's something that's going to have to be addressed in order to avoid driving away new Mastodon users at some point, since they won't have any idea what it's all about.

Someone on social is going to open a GitHub issue to suggest possibly a message coming up in situations like that, which I think is a step in the right direction.

@Nezchan Cool, that's good. The current warning definitely doesn't explain the issue, and it all confused me until I started my own instance.

@matt For what it's worth, this was my suggestion:

"No one from your instance follows this user yet. Uou can be the first, or simply click on their userpic to see their toots."

@Nezchan Way better 👍 I hope they go with that!
