For 40 years I was:
- Right-wing fundamentalist christian
- Staunch conservative Republican
- Climate denialist
- Privilege denialist
Over the last 18 years I have become:
- hard-core atheist
- anarchist
- science-lover
- woke as possible (imho)
I'm also a music lover and musician (keys/percussion) and will be retiring to Mexico in about 11 weeks with my wife of 27 years
#AMA lol

@dixongexpat

That's an introduction. Good luck in Mexico. I take it you've got your new place all sorted out?

@wion Thanks! We will just start out at an AirBNB or with friends, then find a rental within a week or two. We've lived there before. So excite!

@dixongexpat

That's smart. Take it in stages.

We're about to do kind of similar. Ultimately we want to buy further south, but it's hard to house hunt across distance when time is short and you need to be in two places at once.

We decided to rent for a year ir two in the target area to buy more time to look. But the rental isn't ready until Sept, so we're camping in my wife's sister's apartment living room in July/Aug 😂

Gotta do what you gotta do.

@wion further south, as in Central America?

@dixongexpat

From Bas-Rhin to Haut-Rhin (Alsace), closer to Switzerland. But I'm from the Pacific Northwest originally, OR/WA.

@wion oh! Not too far from Lyon? (going by a map search here) My wife has a cousin there. We went through OR/WA several years ago, spent a few weeks there.

@dixongexpat

Still north of Lyon by an hour. Closer to the vicinity of Mulhouse, much smaller, but in one of the surrounding communes, as they're called.

@dixongexpat How did you change your world view about 18 years ago?
@fce I guess I should have included this link in my #introduction :) http://forty-years-fundie.tumblr.com/ - two posts linked in the right column. Kind of a long story, so hope you don't mind me just dropping the link...
@dixongexpat What has made those pivotal changes. I was also more conservative (in a more technocratic strand) than I am now.
@8zu I added a link to my profile - on that blog in the right-hand column is a link to a long post about my deconversion process. :) - tl;dr = a key factor was simply ending the weekly brainwashing that is church attendance. It took four years before I had become fully atheist.
