A picture of how I hold my PS4 controller with my arm after my dominant hand was amputated.
My hand positioning, even though it blocks your view of most of the controller, is what allows me to have full control of almost any button sequence.
Never let anyone tell you there is no way, or that there is something that you can't do.
Fuck them.
You. Can. Find. A. Way.
This one's for you @LottieVixen https://mastodon.cloud/media/OZnTk9Tkuy5jghyyQCQ
@Meshelly can I ask if you've made use of the system-level button remap feature, and if you have any thoughts on it? (I do game accessibility work sometimes)
I have remapped buttons at times, mainly to put most used functions in a more accessible position. Most games I
I can use as is. For PC gaming, I've found the Logitech G13's programmability is enough to play most PC games as well. @kevspace
@Meshelly cool, thanks. That's been my experience also. I've been wanting to pick up a Hori FPS Pro for PS4 so I can remap face buttons that must be held for a long time (like in arcade shooters) to a trigger that a rubber band won't slip off of. Polybius almost put me out of work for a few days.
HOMG. If I could have an actual career testing videogames because I'm disabled.....I just might die. @kevspace
@Meshelly then I'm.... glad you don't? I mean I understand the sentiment (it DEFINITLY SHOULD be a more standardized, paid position) I'm just glad you're not dead
Lol Since there aren't any actual careers available to me because of both my amputation, and being a medical marijuana patient, I'm on disability. But I'm great at gaming. I beat FF XV in 35 hours, and I
I don't play anything on easy. Lol if I could get paid to test games. Omg. That would be a dream. @[email protected]
Reposting because somehow my phone messed up a reply: Lol Since there aren't any actual careers available to me because of both my amputation, and being a medical marijuana patient, I'm on disability. But I'm great at gaming. I beat FF XV in 35 hours, and I

@Meshelly that's the exact sort of thing I'm trying to make happen! It's not my day job tho, just a rarely-compensated side hustle (yes I am, by Pew Research standards, technically a 'Millennial')
I was born in 1980, and for some reason, hardly anyone agrees with what generation I actually fall in.
@kevspace

@Meshelly I do not agree with them but Pew Research says you're a millennial and The goldanged Media keep using their guidelines

http://www.pewresearch.org/topics/millennials/

I used to say 'if you had a smartphone during puberty you don't get to be in the same Generation as me' but someone pointed out that generations are defined largely by their shared struggles so, ugh, all my friends are broke queers with medical debts and Pokémon opinions, fiiiiiine I guess I'm a millennial

A gaming company should seriously hire me for testing the accessibility of games. I'm fucking adorable. I'm a PR dream. @kevspace
@Meshelly I used to have a friend who does the same and tells kids they can too and draws comics for a living and he's the best nwn <3
I do the same. The kids thing. Not the drawing thing. I used to be an artist, but I lost my dominant hand. @Efi
@Meshelly @LottieVixen This is another reason that they should ALWAYS allow you to remap buttons, so that you can customize them to suite how you hold the controller, no matter who that is.

@Meshelly I'm still in the "anger" phase of grieving for your hand.* That seems like the best way of putting it.

I may be transferring some of that anger from elsewhere. (There are many candidates.)

* (Even though I know it didn't happen recently.)

Being that I survived a situation in which I was literally given a 0% chance of survival; despite the ongoing pain, I really look at it like a gift that was given to me. From the age of 24, I have looked at the world the same way that people who are close to death have. You know the song 'Live like you are dying'? It's kinda like that, but instead of living like I am currently dying, I'm living like every day is a gift because I almost did. @woozle
@Meshelly I haven't yet worked out whether the world is a place I actually want to be. Something like that would pretty decisively tip the balance, I think. :-/
You may not know if the world is a place you want to be, but I promise you: the world needs you. @woozle

@Meshelly All that said, things are looking more hopeful lately, what with transition (started last July) and upcoming SRS (this July 19).

I've just been living on potential for 5 decades now, and it's getting old.

Not that I'm planning on going anywhere unless forced into an unbearable corner. I agree that I have a lot I need to do first, if I possibly can.
