first generation forums/social sites *did* have this feature, in many cases its restricted more as a very basic security/anti-harrassment feature (to stop people editing posts afterwards to change meaning or sneak in contents moderators/admins do not normally permit).
That said, the original USENET groups didn't have edit functions either (although posts were usually compiled offline and posted at a slower rate)

@applecandy @Ian_Haygreen I find myself making more typos when tooting in English than when I (occasionally) toot in other languages - perhaps because I'm not concentrating as hard as I would for a second/third language..
@vfrmedia @Ian_Haygreen in my case, it's more cos of auto correct and just pressing toot as soon as I finish instead of reading what I've written!
Tho I'm a sucker for grammar as it's my job to type 100% all the time!
