An edit button would be handy.
@Ian_Haygreen all social sites don't have edit buttons. It's a conspiracy!

@applecandy @Ian_Haygreen
first generation forums/social sites *did* have this feature, in many cases its restricted more as a very basic security/anti-harrassment feature (to stop people editing posts afterwards to change meaning or sneak in contents moderators/admins do not normally permit).

That said, the original USENET groups didn't have edit functions either (although posts were usually compiled offline and posted at a slower rate)

@vfrmedia @Ian_Haygreen oh right. had no idea!

Tho edit button would be handy. Hate typos.

@applecandy @Ian_Haygreen I find myself making more typos when tooting in English than when I (occasionally) toot in other languages - perhaps because I'm not concentrating as hard as I would for a second/third language..

@vfrmedia @Ian_Haygreen in my case, it's more cos of auto correct and just pressing toot as soon as I finish instead of reading what I've written!

Tho I'm a sucker for grammar as it's my job to type 100% all the time!

@applecandy @vfrmedia the same here. I should read my posts before tooting as well.

@vfrmedia @applecandy @Ian_Haygreen Federating edits in a reliable way would probably be a major hassle too.

Usenet did have a cancel mechanism, similar to deleting posts here. Downside to deleting a post and re-posting is that it loses all the context (boosts, favourites, probably replies), and is shown as new everywhere.

If I can't live with one of my posts in retrospect, I delete it. But I try to be accepting of all the small failures ;)
