so here's a vaguely interesting diversity-adjacent thing:

my current employer does not close on bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day, i.e. they aren't automatic days off. Employees get an extra 10 days of annual leave instead.

The idea is to allow people to "skip" bank holidays if they want longer yearly holidays instead, but it also has the interesting side effect that people to who Christian holidays mean nothing are (mostly) not forced to take those days off work

so hypothetical Muslim employees can take Eid off but work on Easter so they don't lose out on "holiday" compared to hypothetical devout Christians who want Easter off
@theoutrider What happens for athiest, agnostic, pagan, Buddhist, and Jewish people? Do they get fewer days off or just shrug and take the holiday off and do what they want?
@garrett nobody gets any more or less holiday. Everyone gets the same amount, but rather than the UK standard of 20-25 it's 35
@garrett this is to make up for the company being open on most bank holidays, when non-retail is normally closed.
@garrett it's not tied to religion, but it means that someone who doesn't care about Christian holidays can have some other days off instead if they feel like it without having to spend holiday they wouldn't have otherwise
@theoutrider this is actually a great idea!
@Antanicus yeah, I've grown to really like it aside from the part where it's easy to accidentally miss the few bank holidays the UK gets :D

@Antanicus I have had problems trying to make appointments only to be told "uh, that's a bank holiday"

"oh, thanks for reminding me, I should book that off work then"
