I'm rewatching the Harry Potter movies and here's a couple thoughts:

Nerdwriter is right, Prisoner of Azkaban is the best of the movies

Harry James Evans-Verres Potter is a better character than Harry Potter, canon Harry is pretty dumb and hard to watch. Also, wtf is Hermione doing in Gryffindor. What's the reason for Ravenclaw house to exist if Hermione is not in it?

One of the reasons I like HPMOR more than canon is because the characters' awesomeness potential is actually used

For me, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality is the canon now. The original books have too many seams. Okay, telling people to read a fanfic is a hard sell because of the fanfic stigma, plus the first 10 or so chapters have a different style to the rest of the book, after 3 or so years I've given up personally recommending it to anyone and expecting results

Also the fact that this one fanfic is longer than the 7 original books

@Gargron I've tried to start reading on two seperate occaisions and bounced off it hard. I think it would have been easier to have started when it was first being serialized.
@awhite i started reading when there were about 80 chapters (out of 122)
@Gargron Maybe it's not for me, then. I really enjoy it, up to the point where I really don't :)
@awhite reading while it was live was a cool experience that sadly others won't get to enjoy. /r/hpmor had discussions and theory building after every chapter.
@Gargron Okay, that would have been cool; extending the experience beyond just the book. Sorry I missed those days.

@Gargron @awhite I also loved the experince of reading and following discussing on LessWrong and Redit as it was being written. But I had some friends who were very annoyed that it wasn't finished.

One read up to chapter 60 (when it was new), but wasn't interested in following along. When the book was finished, they refused to read the rest because they didn't want to spend so long re-reading the first part. Being able to discuss half the story with them, but not the best half... frustrating. 😫
