I'm getting a bit tired of being teased by my brother in law for being teetotal.

I'd love to mention how I feel about it, but keeping the family peace comes first... Argh.

@Chaffinch If it's just good-natured teasing, sharing your feelings with him ("when you tease me it makes me feel..." with a direct (and respectful) request to ask him to stop would hopefully be effective.

@joshgaudreau It feels like good natured teasing, but it's just so relentless once he gets going. Even if I speak up he just carries right on. Added to the fact that there's usually other family members there, one of which who is highly sensitive to any kind of perceived conflict... It makes it a little difficult.

Still, I'll have to ask him a bit more firmly the next time he does it. Hopefully he'll get the message.☺

@Chaffinch

Sorry to hear that! I hope it gets better for you!

If you can, talk to him alone, or with your sister there, if you get the chance. He won't feel like it's an attack and have to double-down as much I'd guess.

@joshgaudreau Thanks - I'll have to give that a try. I think the worst part is that he's treating it like a joke, and not thinking that I might not share his sense of humour. Oh well.

Thanks for the advice - I've got some options now.☺

@Chaffinch Perhaps have you already tried, but you could ask him why he teases you about your personal choice, to see if he something to say.

That said, having had some periods, sometimes of several months, without any alcohol, I remember the surprise and lack of comprehension, sometime silent but that I could feel, even that can be tiring. Remember that it is a truly personal choice, you don’t have to justify yourself, to anyone.

@arcans That's something I hadn't considered, so asking him might be a good way to start.

And thanks - it feels like I needed to hear that I didn't need to justify my choices. That means a lot.☺

@Chaffinch Respect to you for being teetotal. Less respect for anyone who bugs you about it.
I'm not dry myself, by the way, but making your own choices is important.
@Stringbender Thanks, Stringbender.🤗
