@jaybirdtheman @architect @agates It's funny how some view installing archlinux as a right of passage for aspiring linux users. Building Gentoo from kernel on the other hand actually teaches skills and builds fundamental understanding.

I guess when starting linux anything that departs from a GUI installer is an initial challenge though!

@facades @agates @architect @jaybirdtheman You get out what you put in. Gentoo doesn't necessarily teach you any more skills or build more fundamental understanding than Ubuntu does. It's the user on the other end of the keyboard that determines the level of understanding he/she gets out of the experience. I chose Arch because it gives me the flexibility I need without compiling everything from scratch. It's a great balance for *MY* workflow and style. To each their own :D
