It's so interesting seeing all the different types of online personas people create to share with the world. So many of them seem geared towards who they are professionally. I was hoping that this platform would be more about people connecting personally, leaving their professional personas aside, but as long as there's media coverage, there will be people bringing their professional selves along too, which seems kind of sad.
@Euphoria I have seen other networks where at some point they have had significant media attention, and had a lot of people coming in thinking it would be "the next big thing" and wanting to get on early. It seems that no matter what, a social network develops a "style" and it really feels that Mastodon is a more "social" social network.
@JigmeDatse Mastodon really does seem more social, Jigme. It reminds me a bit of tribe.net in the early 2000s, but that got too slick & overhead intensive and no one could use it properly anymore so we all fled to other sites, many of us reconnecting on Facebook and forging new relationships with friends of friends. Advertising seemed to be the Tribe killer. The site still exists, but even after all these years it's hard to sign-in and stay on due to overhead constraints.
@Euphoria I never was on tribe.net, or not in a way that really worked for me.
It is still registered, but it appears to not work.
@JigmeDatse Alas, it's been that way for about 10 years now, if I'm remembering correctly. I try it again every now and then, but never get very far.
