It's so interesting seeing all the different types of online personas people create to share with the world. So many of them seem geared towards who they are professionally. I was hoping that this platform would be more about people connecting personally, leaving their professional personas aside, but as long as there's media coverage, there will be people bringing their professional selves along too, which seems kind of sad.

@Euphoria I try to separate the two somewhat, but I do both. I don't feel that people interested in my professional activities should have to be part of my personal life to do it.

The hard part is the grey area content and where to put it.

@HedgeMage Maybe Mastodon's good for that grey area stuff. Some of your "friends" might be interested in your professional life, and there might be aspects of it that you want to share with them, whereas you may not want to share personal details of your professional life with professional acquaintances who aren't also friends.
Ironically none of my "friends" are on Mastodon, not even my long time virtual friends, as far as I know. It's nice to be making new friends here.
