@Pttr1 I don't understand
@Gargron when i follow somebody, they dont stay on this account but they go to my other account on Mastodon instead, unless they followed me so it stays here.
@Pttr1 I am still really confused about what it is that stays/goes. Maybe links or screenshots or examples?
@Gargron ''a follows X and b gets the result?'' a+b joint account? for X sake? I just let in the fans to my other account thru this current one, i cant say it on a screenshot too well.
@Gargron cutie.space is not mastodon is what i am saying
@Pttr1 cutie.space runs mastodon and i can see your messages just fine from mastodon.social idk what you're talking about
@Gargron I cant follow from Cutie.Space therefore my Home TL is empty. It transfers the followed to Mastodon.Social, another account i own.
@Pttr1 from cutie.space, enter [email protected] into the search bar, click on the suggestion that comes up, click on follow. Does that not work?
@Gargron just found i was already following you from the 'other account' so i unfollowed and refollowed, now check it.
@Pttr1 is @cajun you? So why did you follow me from mastodon.social?
@Gargron @cajun I did not, this is the issue i'm trying to FIX.
@Pttr1 No one else seems to be having this problem including @nanoha from your instance, which is why I suspect that you're just doing something wrong or misunderstand something :T

@Gargron I can confirm that I don't understand the issue @Pttr1 reportedly has.

Perhaps @Pttr1 doesn't understand how federation works?

@nanoha @Gargron what is this fucking assertion, you mad as well?
@Pttr1 @Gargron mad? no. I'd like to understand the problem you're having and help you solve it.
@nanoha @Gargron Think of it as diverting a follower to another Instance.

@Pttr1 @Gargron what you're describing, so far as I know, cannot happen

if this instance isn't managing to follow people, that's a different issue

@nanoha @Gargron yes, and? do you own a Mastodon.Social account?
@Pttr1 @Gargron yes. it works like any other mastodon.social account.
@nanoha @Gargron Well did you use the same email for both accounts, or even similar ones? Cos i did.

@Pttr1 @Gargron No.

I could.

But it would make no difference either way.

@nanoha @Gargron ah, so you cheated a bit, but how would you know therefore it would not make a difference? The domain aint it, the email has to rhyme a bit.
@Pttr1 @Gargron It shouldn't make any difference either way. Mastodon doesn't care about similar email addresses, it treats them as opaque identifiers like any other service.
@nanoha @Gargron Mastodon doesnt care, but it screws accounts.

@Pttr1 @Gargron Does it?

Can you actually show this supposed behaviour in action?

@nanoha @Gargron give me your other account and i will follow it
@Pttr1 @Gargron okay, my other is @nanoha
@nanoha @Gargron @nanoha it is followed already, but i will unfollow it and refollow it, ok?
@Pttr1 @Gargron okay, I see @cajun follows @[email protected]. Where's the problem?
@nanoha @Gargron @cajun @nanoha i cannot make any follows on cutie.space, it always goes to that other =damn fool=.
@Pttr1 @Gargron You follow two people here. What did you do differently for them?
@nanoha @Pttr1 hey just a guess are you opening the public profile of the target user and clicking follow there?
@Gargron @nanoha what does that mean, public profile?

@Pttr1 @Gargron the page at cutie.space/users/foo or mastodon.social/users/foo

it's a separate web page from the main interface and opens in its own tab

@Pttr1 @Gargron if you click follow on that page it will follow the user on whatever service they're using

@Pttr1 @Gargron when you click on someone's @, you go to their page on whichever site they're on, say mastodon.social

the page that comes up is not part of cutie.space, and clicking follow there does not affect cutie.space

@Pttr1 @Gargron er, well, if you open that link in a new tab

if you click on it within the mastodon interface, then it brings up the profile within mastodon and you can follow them from here

@nanoha @Gargron Mastodon interface looks like what?
@Pttr1 @Gargron it's the white-on-dark-gray interface with the columns
@nanoha @Gargron I just followed you cos there was a follow button on the top left side, not on the profile page, that's that issue resolved

@Pttr1 @Gargron okay, I'm glad.

sorry, this is a bit confusing if you're used to say, Twitter.

federation means that if you click the wrong link you're no longer on the same instance
