Web search is getting so bad that even when I search for DIY projects, I'm met with piles of results for items to purchase.
@hobbsc Looking at my own search behaviour I have to state that I'm totally "googlyfied" as I know how to interact with it's search to find what I want.
It's kinda creepy.
Join my project of replacing google. My idea is to make a local cache of stuff I have viewed that will be searched before google. An anonymized search to google will help complete the results.

The idea is to selfhost an elastisearch db with html documents, contacts, locations, mail and chatlogs. That db will serve a browser search provider which will search local stuff first and when getting bad matches, complete the search from google.

It will be an android app that hijacks some data and disables some google spy settings.
@mikael @hobbsc Not to discourage you, but why are so few people using and hosting e.g. YaCy? Any p2p search tool needs to answer that.
@mikael @hobbsc Ah, and Seeks is another one I couldn't quite remember the name of.
@clacke @hobbsc @mikael YaCy's big issues are resource use and quality of results.
@mikael @hobbsc This looks like a place to start. Didn't hear of Faroo before. http://qttr.at/1ltx (quora.com)
