Excellent write up on community toxicity by Ikey Doherty. https://plus.google.com/+IkeyDoherty/posts/7xLPR3uexnH

@bashfulrobot is Ikey on here these days?
@ryanleesipes not that I can see. I just chat a lot with him on Telegram.
@ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot Ikey? Oh, I'm sure I can probably get him to show up.
@ryanleesipes @sri was that you pinging him off Reddit? ha ha
@bashfulrobot @ryanleesipes of course. ;) I told you, he'll show if I ask him to :)
@ryanleesipes @sri bribery, blackmail, or friendship - all powerful. ha ha
@bashfulrobot @ikey liked that post. Very much reflects my feelings. A lot of negativity, given that folks are working on open source software, sometimes just for fun.
@ryanleesipes @ikey @bashfulrobot well this happens as soon as you become mainstream enough, people just come to the party to hate... just take a look at omgubuntu and the "This sucks ... I am an arch user" type of posts (for illustration purposes only, no offense intended against the arch populace)
@ryanleesipes @ikey @sergiusens it is one of those funny things. People need to (or should) develop people skills. Speaking specifically towards computing... tools, methods, ideas - they all have merit in their own ways. Some more than others, however, no need to bash. Especially considering it is very likely that most (not all) likely do not help in any capacity. Likely a consumer over a contributor.
@ryanleesipes @ikey @bashfulrobot sorry but I hate (trolololl 😇) ZSH, it's bash all the way here.
@ryanleesipes @ikey @sergiusens right, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't smack someone upside the head for running zsh. :-)
@ryanleesipes @ikey @bashfulrobot to the contrary, I will defend your right to do the wrong thing if that is what is the path you seek 🙃
@ryanleesipes @ikey @sergiusens hey hey hey now... I never said I tasted the madness and run it.
@sri @ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot merci! Sidenote, this tweetdeck-lookin-ui is really horrible to use :P
@ikey @bashfulrobot @ryanleesipes Time to write a new client? :-) (I know I'm evil.)
@sri @ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot isn't that kinda GNUception at that point? :P But I'm betting one day someone creates a proprietary client for it. Oh the irony ..
@ikey @bashfulrobot @ryanleesipes That would be ironic. Better write a better client before that happens!
@ikey @bashfulrobot @ryanleesipes @sri I'm pretty sure per-instance CSS theming is in newer version. You could also use Stylish Firefox extension if you find a community theme you like on your personal PC.
@Vertana @ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot @ikey I think he just hates the 4 panel setup, and no amount of css is going to fix that :) But if you nudge him he might write something better ;)
@sri @ryanleesipes @ikey @Vertana while there could be some improvements, my CSS witchcraft is not strong enough to risk burning at the stake.
@ryanleesipes @sri @ikey it is not my favorite. Clients will probably pop up at some point once people have had enough.
@ikey @bashfulrobot @ryanleesipes @sri You have Stylish and userstyles.org if you want wider panes. It helped a bit.
@ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot @ikey listening to Late Night Linux Ep.9 so.... Hi! Downloaded Solus Gnome just for kicks. ;)
@ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot @ikey Solus Gnome would not boot. :( Posted in the Solus forum. Boots to the login, then starts to blink, probably a loop. After 20secs blinking stops. stays at login. PC has Solus (normal) installed. Can't wait to get it working. ;).
@ikey @bashfulrobot @ryanleesipes Love how fast Gnome is on Solus.
I was having trouble with some ”old hardware" still don't work on that but it's fast. I was teaching a Noob and she keeped telling me to slow down on here 2Gb RAM Intel Duo... LOL. The menu's & super key response is near instant.
@ryanleesipes @bashfulrobot @ikey Love how fast Gnome is on Solus. ;p. Great work Ikey. Same ISO that I was having problems with so Old Hardware!?! maybe. All that matters is it's great for Noons.
@bashfulrobot maybe I'm too new to the community but I agree with ikey and just dont get the negativity. at our fingertips is some of the most amazing tech and software that makes our lives easier and better and we dont pay a dime but people complain. sure I have preferences but its all still amazing stuff to me.
@tonytheleg It (in my opinion) comes down to personality, people skills, and at times egos. This isn't something that is unique to OSS, however, is prevalent, or can be. I agree, there are many great things here, otherwise no one would be involved. 1/
@tonytheleg I mean, the term "community" is used for a reason - but it's too bad some people prefer to segregate it. People need to work harder to bridge the gap. @Wimpress is a great example. He distributes funds from his project to other projects. As well as working with other people from other projects. And @ikey is another. The two of them collaborate, even though some in some circles might see the projects as competition. 2/
@tonytheleg And most importantly, if you are new to the community (I am!), don't get dragged down in the muck. There are so many rad, smart people doing great things in their projects. I have been trying to work from consumer to contributor because these people are doing good things that I would like to contribute to. 3/3
