CS@nothingfuture If by hit-or-miss you mean people that appeared on the first instance aren't returned by the search on the second instance, it's possible that no one on the second instance follows that user (and therefore that user has not yet been added to that instance's federated timeline).
ryan wolf@nothingfuture search on an instance only knows about users who are in the "known federation" of that instance (followed by >0 users of that instance)
