Wondering how hashtags work in Mastodon and how you follow them without having to search over and over?

Let's say I want to read about #distributedsystems, how do I passively follow along with new toots on this topic?

@mmcdex Yea, I'm thinking about something that is a little more persistent though. I guess saved searches would do it?

@Judeibe Perhaps! I'm still trying to figure out how things work out of the box. I figure the nature of tags is to allow for keeping tabs on interesting topics, so I'm wondering what people have been doing with Mastodon as it works now.
