I've always had a bit of a hands off stance towards social media. I tend to lurk rather than interact.

Mastodon feels strange to me because my dipping of a toe into the stream actually results in feedback. More used to speaking into the void. Part of the newness of the system, I think, plus matters of scale.

@Vinculum //reminds me of a study that showed many people in rural areas and small pop centers had larger social circles than their urban counterparts

@Prescient Huh. I never thought about that, but makes sense.

If there's five people around you, you need to acknowledge all of them. If there's 100, you ignore everyone except the person standing next to you.
