Hmm, sync between federated nodes seems quite laggy. Also importing follow lists seems to be quite slow (at least on the other instance I am on).

Then again that instance has been a bit unstable today.

@nite0wl yeah, it seems they do federated replies and such synchronously LOL
@nite0wl my federated timeline is laggy as hell too, but I am also following a lot of people on mastodon.social which is apparently still overloaded.
@knarphie Which is why I made a second account on securitymastod.one (@nite0wl) but that one seems to be nearly as overloaded. Or maybe it is their constant 'bad gateway errors.
@nite0wl @nite0wl I setup my own. Doesn't help the overloading at other instances though.
@knarphie @nite0wl If I had the hosting space I would totally start my own instance. I have a spare Xeon box that isn't doing very much right now but no way to get it public facing.
@nite0wl waiting on my import as well
@Path Setting up @nite0wl has taken up most of my day.
@nite0wl @nite0wl I'm just 1 page into refollowing my .social followers because I'm impatient lol
@nite0wl @Path I have been trying to manually enter them but the .one instance hasn't synced the account directories for a lot of nodes yet.

@Path Importing & exporting worked pretty well for me. In under a day, I think I had most of my followers back. I'd almost say all of the active users. For now, as a quick-fix, it seems to work fairly well, from my PoV.

Curious for your experiences.

@tim @Path Just tried export/import today for my https://securitymastod.one/@sten0_SE account.

Crazy easy process though it hasn't "kicked through" on server end yet.

@nite0wl sometimes importing a follow list just doesn't work. there was (is?) a bug where if the process hits a single error, it stops processing the whole list. no idea if it's been fixed? and if there is, who knows if your instance has that fix
@bunnyhero Interesting. I have given it a few hours so I will see if it has improved at all.
@bunnyhero Taking a look at it, the main point of failure is that the other instance is lagging on indexing the account directory of the other federated nodes. Attempting manual searches for the accounts that aren't importing from the CSV generally don't show up on manual searches either, this suggests my issue is lag in syncing account directories between nodes.
@nite0wl ah yeah that makes sense
@bunnyhero pretty much the same problem that drove me mad at an old job where AD replication took up to an hour just to sync things like unlocking an account.
@nite0wl Seems too many people were going to that instance, could have been causing issues? They shut down registration.
@jamesfirth That seems to be happening to a lot of instances.
@nite0wl Yeah, oh well at least it means people are interested!
@jamesfirth That is true, though how many can we be sure are people or are people who will be trying to use the service rather than just lurk or try it then drop it after a few days?
@nite0wl Only time will tell on this one I think.
