12 am i have a googacle story to share so gather round all three people who are online

So in May I'm going to be in San Francisco speaking at a panel hosted by the American Bar Association. It's about... social media. I am as per usual the weirdo guest, the others are a jury consultant who looks at jurors based on social media, a litigator who uses social media as a tool in their work, and a judge who has in the past barred the use of social media to look into juror backgrounds. The judge?

William Haskell Alsup

I am told that he MIGHT make it because there's a hearing the same day that he's trying to get moved. So I cross my fingers, make the arrangements, text a couple friends, and forget about it.

The next week I read a news article about the Waymo/Uber lawsuit and the article closes by saying that there will be a motion hearing in early May. Early May? That's when I'll be in the city! I make a mental note to look up the date and time of the hearing, then forget about it.

A couple days later I remember again and look up the docket, search for "hearing set." The first result sinks my stomach: the hearing is set the morning of the panel I have to be on!!

At this point my slow brain finally clicks into place. This is the same hearing that Alsup was trying to get moved so he could be on the same panel I was invited to.

I look further down the docket and sure enough, he got the hearing moved to a different date.

So now I can make it to Alsup's hearing, and Alsup can make it to my* panel.

So I guess I'll probably live tweet the hearing before I go on a panel to discuss live tweeting courtrooms
Going to try to work up the courage to ask to take a picture with him
@sarahjeong I hope you do!
Hey, @Gargron - how about adding a feature that allows people to transfer courage, pain resistance or such like via mastodon? :-) Not that I have much courage anyway, but happy to loan it out to Sarah, I am pretty safe a.t.m.
