I wrote a small patch for Mastodon that got accepted yesterday. It lets you set up an email domain whitelist for your instance. For example, if your school wants to set up an instance just for students, they can do it by limiting signups to addresses at `whatever.edu`.
@pete Oh hey, you're the one who wrote it - thanks much :-)
@pete that's pretty cool, man. Way to go.
@pete That's actually a pretty brilliant patch.
Thanks @pete! I just used that feature setting up my instance. I had no idea how "young" it was.
@pete I was asking about this a few hours ago. Thank you so much!
@pete Good idea! Probably would help adoption at orgs and institutions...
@pete nice, thanks for that! Useful for family/personal instances too (which is my case)
@ludovic That's what I'm using it for too :)
@pete why do our posts show up behind a "meta" button? I have never seen that before?
@ludovic i put a content warning on the post so people wouldn't have to read more mastodon meta stuff if the didn't want to. Content warnings carry to replies by default.
@pete This is fantastic, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
@pete a straight up email whitelist would be useful for if membership is for patreon contributors only, or something like that

@LogicalDash That's a good idea. I wonder if maybe an invite system would work better though? Like an option to make signups "invite only," where an admin has to plug in your email address and you click a link to sign up on an instance.
@pete GREAT feature, nicely done!
@pete that seems like a useful feature.
