Remember this "Rails doesn't scale" thing? :speak_no_evil:
@sickill what do you mean? Btw, this toot just showed up in my feed a few seconds ago, even though it says it was written 33 minutes ago. What's that about?
@augustl Mastodon is written in Rails, and it already has perf issues ;) Or it doesn't :P
@sickill @augustl Apparently they closed registrations when the site was doing 4000 messages/hour. That's a whopping 1+ message a second that the software was unable to process properly...
@sickill but it's kind of cheating anyway, isn't it?
@yundt in what sense?
@sickill with instances being independent, single instances don't really need to "scale" that well, but then you have problems implementing features like search etc. Buuut still, I can't say I've paid too much attention to how it's really built :clown:
@sickill oh wait, only now I've heard about performance problems of mastodon.social, and I guess those errors I'm getting when trying to follow people are also connected... :speak_no_evil:
@yundt to be fair it has to be said mastodon.social is run by one guy.
@sickill AR doesn’t scale :)
