I finally, finally figured out how to kill the annoying message that has been popping up on my phone for months now. (OMG, your phone is is silent mode, you might miss a call!)

So relieved.

@athetize :-) OK, OK.

The annoying message appears only on some Android phones; mine was one of them. Turning off notifications for every single program on the phone didn't work, so I thought it was an operating system thing, and I was stuck with it.

However, it turns out that the message is generated by a program called Peel Remote, which seems to be a channel-changing app to use with televisions. It came pre-installed on my phone. Once I disabled Peel Remote, the annoying messages stopped.
