Also, all the animated gif avatars on the public timeline thing are annoying and distracting, I wish there was a way to turn them off.

I reported a bug about this ages ago, and it was closed, but I still see animated gifs with no way to disable them :(

@elad3 just saw on the awoo.space instance that they are dealing with accounts with pulsating avatars. Don't know if this is for animated gifs in general or just ones that pulse.

@elad3 they're also legitimately potentially dangerous

I think it was originally rejected because the community agreed to take it easy on that stuff which worked okay but obviously that kind of social contract breaks down a bit with sudden huge surges like this
