What if we use English on Mastodon ? It could be a convenient and universal way to communicate with you and with @gargon and all the cool kids who are working on Mastodon as we toot. Any thoughts ?

@SamSaramyak we don't know yet. That can be an option. We don't know if our audience is fluent in english.

@numerama Not everyone is bilingual, and we definitely don't want to log the monolingual ppl out! ^^°

But perhaps, using English on English-based instances when tooting publicly would be nicer for other users, to make the Local Timeline at least more useable for all!

@numerama People use whatever language they feel like. There is (or at least was) a bunch of people who speak mainly german and dutch also. Not everyone on here understands english.

@numerama you'll loose your French readers who barely speak English. Maybe you can try a bilingual account or numerama_EN account.

@numerama wouldn't mind but I don't see how to enforce a single language on a platform like this. As soon as someone will decide to not bother everyone will go back to tooting in FR/DE/etc.

That and the massive influx from Twitter, lots of users used to tweeting in their own language.
