Sonya Mann ✅The most unfortunate feature of Mastodon is that you can't see many posts outside of the instance that you're on. Not such a big deal if you're on mastodon.social with most of the other people, but it's brutal if you're elsewhere. Possibly a value-killer. GnuSocial seems to handle this better? I'm not certain about the parameters of the behavior in either case. @Gargron

shel💯@sonya your federated timeline is every user followed by every user on your instance. The larger an instance gets the more it's federated timeline grows. Afaik this is how t works on gnusocial too just their nodes have had more time to reach out and link up with more users. Some even have bots that follow every user they find to link up the instances faster
