@gargron Both, actually. That text is what people see most of the time, so hiding part of the webby is a mistake. It was a mistake when Identica did it (leading to one super-node whose users had little understanding that they could use other nodes and how to interact with such nodes). @lnxw48a1 Right, the problem is that displaying the long, unwieldy handles in text (making it less readable) will make people prefer staying on the same instance as everybody. And if you force writing the local domain too, people will just leave, because that'd be too annoying.
NaOn other GnuSocial instances, I've seen "Go to the original Status" links with a (unique?) icon. Are those icons an actual GNU Social/OStatus thing, or is that an admin-curated thing?
In either case, would it make sense to use those icons instead of an ellipsis?

@gargron It is important that you know I'm not sniping at you here. I've observed the same mistake and its effects repeatedly since sometime in 2008. I'm hoping at least one project finds a way to benefit from hindsight.
