Are Mastodons are going to be like Slacks? You'll be in dozens of them and it'll be a huge pain in the ass.
@chris_martin Only if you join multiple Mastodons? I don't know how likely that is though, especially because Mastodon federates with other instances
@chris_martin there's no API for third-party slack clients
@chris_martin being in multiple slacks is only a pain in the ass if they don't turn on the IRC bridge

@chris_martin no, you would make data available to multiple portals, but you can plug the portals into wherever you're accessing all this shit, and whatever portals you have plugged in get dumped into a single feed in the same place where you're creating posts.

Of course, you could sort/filter/etc by source, but it would all be accessed in one place.

@chris_martin haha, nevermind, I thought this was a response to something else I had written. Carry on.
@chris_martin they'll use less ram per instance at least (it'd be difficult to use more)
@chris_martin Nope. You have a single home instance and follow people on others. That's not to say you can't have accounts on multiple instances.
@mcg But people keep calling them communities
@chris_martin Sorta I guess. An instance doesn't have to federate and in that case more like an isolated community.
