If you're from Twitter: hello, and there's a handy app at https://mastodon-bridge.herokuapp.com/ that can help your Twitter friends find you
I should have pointed out that this thing actually works by looking at Twitter follower lists, so if you've got followers you don't want to know about your move, this is not the app you want
@ninjawedding whats my host name? I can't seem to log in with Mastodon

@Arc0re_ for a mastodon.social account, your login would be [email protected].

(the reason for the extra domain part is that there's many instances of this software on the Web and they communicate with each other to various degrees)

@ninjawedding Oh I see, thanks. I like the idea of having multiples instances of Mastodon too
@Arc0re_ yeah, it's definitely nice to not be tied to a central service! Migration is still a bit tricky, but there's now an import/export thing that can smooth out some of the bumps.

You might have already seen icosahedron.website, awoo.space, social.tchncs.de, and then there's other implementations of the underlying OStatus protocol elsewhere. here's a partial list: https://social.guhnoo.org/
@ninjawedding Oh thats cool. It would have been even cooler to be able to log on all of those with the same account (you can't do that, right?)
@Arc0re_ not as far as I know -- to make that happen, you'd need something like all OStatus implementations to support OpenID or some other standard authentication protocol
@ninjawedding just making everyone agree on an auth protocol sounds like a hell of a task :p
