A few days ago I went to a welcome-home potluck for one of the guys I worked with in San Quentin. He had been incarcerated since he was a teenager and was finally deemed suitable for parole (he's in his late 40s now). I can't tell you the joy that beamed out of his face at this potluck, and his enthusiasm to see all of us in the program outside of prison.

Never underestimate the importance of prisoner support.

Honestly, I do the work that I do and I go to this prison and I support this organization because I believe that nobody should be incarcerated, and because the goal of this organization is to free every single person behind bars (with a focus on providing culturally competent support for APIA inmates)

So it was incredible to see one more person be free and break bread with us. It's a reminder of why we still fight - even when it is long and exhausting.

But this man in particular was lucky. There are so many other guys in this program that I work/volunteer in that are snatched up by ICE immediately upon release (oftentimes, their green cards or visas expired while incarcerated) - and we can't throw welcome-home potlucks for them. We have to fight for their release from further detention.

Fuck borders, fuck ICE, fuck the carceral state, fuck Imperialism and militarism, fuck poverty, fuck prisons.

We fight until everyone is free.
