First sunflower to avoid chomping in many years! (Required hardware cloth around it for its first 7 feet of growth, lol.. stupid squirrels). #sunflower #garden
@ai6yr ohhhh is that my problem? 😂 I haven't tried growing them from seed before but there's only one (out of more than 10 that I planted) still going, and only because it's hiding in the Amaranth patch.
@onyinyang The seeds ALSO get stolen by rats, and crows, and scrub jays here, lol.
@ai6yr Reason you need a 7 foot tall fence is you got 6 foot tall squirrels. Did I get that right?
All I can say is - keep 'em to yourself.
@mappingsupport The squirrels are RELENTLESS here.

@ai6yr Eastern gray squirrels are invading the PNW. Several hung out on our place last year. They chopped off the tips of branches on our Western Red Cedar trees. I had to rake up branch bits beneath those trees.

This year the grays seem to have moved on. Perhaps they decided trying to survive by eating the tiny seeds produced by cedar trees was not a viable plan.

@ai6yr Try sulphur crested cockatoos… those buggers are smart, can fly, and they _love_ the heads of sunflowers.
@stuartl @ai6yr They also delight in removing bird restraint devices.

🤣 🥰 Inspired by the track "Wreck what is wrecking you from a former German Punk Band "Einstürzende Neubauten" - 😆 🦜 👍

@ai6yr congrats dude. It’s beautiful
@user47 Ha, my adult son's project, more than mine. He was determined to outsmart the squirrels this year.
