daniel berntsson, one of mullvad's two founders and owners, has donated millions to a local fascist/populist party. (swedish link to flamman, a socialist news site)

the örebro party are mainly known for using unusually aggressive rhetorics and racism.

in the article, berntsson specifically mentions supporting the örebro party's politics of forced repatriation of swedish citizens born abroad.

EDIT: …and should you decide that you're not renewing your subscription, then may i suggest telling them about it? i mean it's arguably a good thing if they're made aware that they're losing customers because of the owners financing this crap. and they can't get away with it since anonymous donations to political parties are prohibited in sweden.

you could even tell them here on fedi. it's mullvadnet(at)mastodon.online

Flamman

guess i could mention that they've also argued against queer rights, calling LGBTQ orgs "a full-on mafia" etc

so if you pay mullvad then apparently that's where the money ends up

@jasmine oh. So basically we're back to literally no good VPNs then

It's either paying fascists or having your data sold to and being tracked by the same fascists 🙃

Is Tuta bad as well? I'm aware of Proton and now Mullvad, but if thete is anything on Tuta, I must have missed it.
@leeloo @hazelnot @jasmine what’s the problem with Proton?

@benny @hazelnot @jasmine
The same thing. Lead guy came out in support for fascism.

Are you nee here? That was all over the fediverse a while ago.

@leeloo @hazelnot @jasmine No, I have missed it.

I migrated all my stuff to Proton a few months back. Now, I’m wondering what to use next. Perhaps I should finally self-host my mail server.

@benny please consider Runbox.com, I have had no issues with them and the pricing is fair IMO for what they offer

Posteo.net is also another option.

@jessienab I have moved from Posteo to Proton. The reasons was that my mail adress got more spam/phishing mails and Posteo didn’t considered these as this, even when there where clear indication in the Mail Header.
And I like the unlimited random aliases feature in proton, which allows me to setup for each service an random Mail Adresse.
You can use +aliases in Posteo, but they leaking your real address and you can start a conversation from these aliases.

@benny

Maybe try Anonaddy.io to make aliases? I use it with my email provider (mailbox.org) and I love it. You can reply from your alias (althought i haven't tried it yet) and they give you proper aliases, not the + addon kind.

You get 10 shared domain aliases for free and unlimted standard aliases, it supports gpg encryption (I use it!), and they've partnered with Tuta and other privacy focused services. It can apparently also be selfhosted.

@benny
This is what I did last year after Proton came out as pro-Trump
