quick question, fedi: what font do y'all use in your terminal? most popular options with open licences will be bundled in my upcoming ios ssh client.
@fish using meslo lg mainly because it was the easiest for me to grab and use with nerdfonts/powerlevel10k
@esm licencing issues :( its whatever though the system provides menlo and i have the NF symbols bundled separately
@fish fantastaque sans. cause it's in debian repos and im lazy
@aleteoryx @fish +1 for fantasque, it's easy on my eyes and also looks cool
@fish only ones with open licenses that i use r cascadia mono and iosevka extended sometimes
@six actually the default font i'm shipping is a custom iosevka variant i made that borrows characteristics from sf mono and is a bit wider than the extended variant
@six @fish woaw wild 6 spotted
@6 best number of all time
@fish idk if it has an open license but DM Mono
@fish Hack, Monaspace (Krypton)
@fish Cozette. I use it for everything.
@fish Comic Code (paid, so doesn't count), Monaspace family, Flexi IBM VGA v2.0, are the main ones
I did at one point setup, uh...a lot of fallback fonts, manually, lol
kosefont and xiolai for cjk, fairfax HD, unscii, maple mono, juliamono, cica, everson mono, kissinger 2, unifont...

flexi ibm vga is CC-BY-SA
monaspace is SIL 1.1
I will say,
juliamono is GREAT font coverage, also SIL
unscii is fully Public Domain even, except for the unscii-16-full which borrows characters from unifont and as such is GPL-ed
and I would use
Maple, much more, if the italics weren't cursive
cica is mostly like, merger font of dejavu sans mono with some others, SIL
kissinger 2 is SIL, and along with unifont aren't the "best" options, but they have REALLY large coverage, and they're both...fine...they have a little bit of beef with each other but it's fine (kissinger 1 was based on unifont, 2 isn't, it's just personal disagreements w people)
and ofc
you can't say terminal without
terminus (this is a ttf version of the bitmap one, follows same license, latest versions are SIL license)

...

I may have gone a little deeper into fonts than most people, lol, sorry

@6 yeahh gpl is off limits not because i'm not intending to open source my app but rather because apple is not willing to touch anything gpl'd with a 10 foot pole.
i'll definitely look into unscii though because it looks really cool, might try making a variant of 16-full that omits just the unifont bits (since it says some of the glyphs come from fixedsys excelsior).
i already have terminus and monaspace, and honestly i'm just gonna stop because i already bundle like 15 fonts anyway and have a feature to import custom fonts
