The 7-Minute Shutdown Ritual

Progressive muscle relaxation flips on your parasympathetic nervous system. You tense each muscle group, then let go. That release tells your brain it's time to wind down.

Here's how to do it:

Lie down. Tense a muscle group for 5 seconds. Release for 15 seconds. Start at your feet and work up to your face. Breathe deeply between each group. Takes about 7 minutes before bed. (1/2)

A couple things worth knowing. Don't skip your jaw and shoulders. That's where most of the stress sits. And don't rush it. The slow release is where the real benefit is.

Most people fall asleep faster and wake up less during the night within a week. You just have to actually do it.
