Australian company Santana wants to build a toxic gold mine on Bendigo Station in Central Otago. Their application is in the final stages of fast-track hearings.

The fast-track panel has requested important information from Santana including "a cumulative drawdown assessment of the Bendigo aquifer; assessment of wetland hydrological functions; transient water load balance modelling; active water treatment design; passive water treatment concept and design; and design of uncaptured seepage system."

Santana, led by an Aussie cooker says 'Nah! You grant us consent first, and THEN we'll provide that info.'

That's not how it works. You'd have to hope that their belligerent attitude sees Santana's bid dead in the water.

@BobLefridge Not if Shane Limousine Jones intervenes.

While Bishop wanted ministers to have an overriding say, making a nonsense of the fast-track exercise, I don't think they got their way. So AFAIK Jones can't *legally* intervene.

I'm wondering if a boozy, off-the-record lunch with Shame Jones a couple of years ago may have given the Santana cookers the wrong impression?

@leighelse

@BobLefridge @leighelse their response wasn't "what numbers would you need to see in our reports?" so he probably hasn't gotten involved yet
