Trump and Iran thread 🧵, part 2:

The Sixty Day Period

.

[Ed. I figured this was as good a time as ever to start a second part of this thread. Knowing Trump we're going to get up into the high numbers here. Part one can be found here https://mastodon.social/@jmcrookston/115923218782251327 ]

The Iranian Supreme Leader has already announced that Trump signed the deal out of desperation and that Tehran will not listen to the United States if it makes too many demands.

We are mere hours into the 60 day negotiating period and things are going swimmingly.

And by "swimmingly" I mean that's the only thing that's going to be happening in the Strait of Hormuz shortly, because has there aren't going to be any oil tankers traversing it.

Well it looks like that MOU is done.

Talks in Switzerland are off until there's a ceasefire in Lebanon and Iran. Says the United States is responsible to rein in Israel.

Yup this baby is dead.

The U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding is due to be signed on Friday.

Trump says Iran is 'finished'

President Donald Trump said Iran is "finished," saying the U.S. didn't meet out of "desperation, Iran did," in a post on social media Friday.

"They are FINISHED! We’ll play out the 60 days. They get no money, not ten cents!" Trump wrote."

When Trump says "not ten cents" you just never know if he's about to give them 300 billion dollars.

Strait's closed, baby. Strait's closed.

(With apologies to Pulp Fiction)

'The US president had threatened to bomb Iran and even to kidnap the Iranian negotiating team unless the strait of Hormuz was reopened, forcing mediators Qatar and Pakistan to continue negotiations in the background.'

This is ridiculous. Trump is not in any mental state to run the United States. He needs to be removed by Congress.

Iran is just dragging the United States. This is so ridiculous.

Let's see if he turns out to be right

"... you just follow the oil price trading pattern here over the past couple of weeks, you’re seeing the markets telling you that it’s increasingly confident that we’re closer to the end of the conflict,” said managing director of US Equity Strategy at Citi Research Scott Chronert on CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia”.

“This energy price overhang with its inflation connotation should be lessening in the weeks and months to come,” he added. "

Ship traffic is still well under regular traffic levels.

Marco Rubio says everybody agrees there should be no tolls. Iran says the strait will never go back to the way it was.

Trump needs to voting amendments so he can steal the election. That's why he's so insistent.

"If Iran has a problem they should pick up the phone"
- JD Vance, Vice-President of the country that assassinated the leader of Iran.
@jmcrookston They have tried that several times but you ( us admin) have not honored your agreement each and every time. Better make different statements then.

@TomDB

Yeah JD is full of garbage.

@jmcrookston Didn't israel actually do this strike? Not that the US is not complicit, but i don't think it was in its plan that khamenei and all the people with him would be taken out at that point.

(agreed that picking up the phone is generally a bad idea when you are at war with Israel and the USA)

@tshirtman

I remembered that the US conducted this strike. I checked and you are correct, it was the Netanyahu government that technically did it, although working with the US.

"On 28 February 2026, Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, was assassinated in Tehran as part of a series of Israeli airstrikes aimed at high-ranking Iranian officials."

I am probably remembering Trump's bragging that he did it, afterwards

Has the US ever assassinated a world leader before?

The US government for decades shied away from targeting foreign leaders after embarrassing failures and unintended consequences from covert activities by the CIA.
