After fixing up the bike trailer I was able to retrofit the parts so I can attach the kayak again. I'm still not super happy with the long pole. I'd like to think of a better way but this works for now.

Small tires and aluminum all break apart and go inside the kayak while I'm on the water. The kayak is suspended in a 3-way hammock with actual bungee-cord shock absorbers to handle bumpy trails. I think I over-engineered it though 🤔.
