Hey so where do I get 6/3 copper wire for a reasonable price? I need at least 50ft, but it looks like it's going to cost more than the EV charger I want to get. #EV #DIY #Electrical #Wiring

@fathermcgruder i also was pricing this out at one point and, situation dependent, it may be cheaper to use individual THHN conductors in conduit than to buy nonmetallic cable rated for equivalent current. i don't remember the tables off the top of my head but i think you can use a slightly smaller conductor if you do it that way since it dissipates heat better than nm cable.
@sluttymayo I'm realizing that I might have to go with individual conductors in conduit anyway since it's under a carport and therefore counts as an outdoor installation. Funnily enough, I also realized that it doesn't make sense for me to get a dedicated charger. The car limits the current to 32A on 240VAC, so I might as well just put in a 14-50 outlet and just keep using the portable charger that came with the car.
@sluttymayo Anyway, even at 40A, it looks like it would be code compliant for me to use 8awg, so thanks for the suggestion!
